2025-26 Programming Details

Admission Requirements

Students must meet the criteria set out by the post-secondary institution offering the course or program, which will typically include a minimum of 65% or higher in:

  • ELA 20-1 or ELA 20-2
  • Science 10
  • Math 10C or Math 30-3
  • HCS3000
  • HCS3010

Students must be prepared to commit to post-secondary level expectations, including independent learning, meeting deadlines, and attending all scheduled classes on-time with the learning materials ready.

Agriculture

ATG1008: Solving Technology Problems

Semester 1

Students will engage in the problem-solving process using current hardware and software tools for applied data-driven problem solving. Through data analysis, algorithmic problem solving, and technical memo writing students will work to solve a technical agricultural issue.

This course transfers to the Precision Agriculture Techgronomy Diploma at Olds College. 

 

CEA1000: Fundamentals of Controlled Environment Agriculture

Semester 1

Students will gain a basic understanding of the business aspects of varied Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) systems, including intruductory market research techniques and awareness of operational logistics, preparing them for further exploration in the field of CEA.

This course transfers to the Indoor Agriculture Certificate at Olds College. 

 

CEA1040: Controlled Environment Systems

Semester 2

Through hands-on learning, students will gain practical experience with optimizing crop production and diagnosing problems while minimizing environmental impact. By the end of the courses, students will have the necessary skills to operate and troubleshoot systems, incorporating integrated pest management and waste management in Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) systems. 

This course transfers to the Indoor Agriculture Certificate at Olds College. 

Automotive Service Technician

Semester 2

The Automotive Service Technician pathway provides students with hands-on experience in vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, and repair. Through apprenticeship theory, students develop real-world skills in vehicle systems components, routine maintenance, inspection, and repair while maintaining safe tool use and shop procedures. This program is ideal for students interested in mechanics, heavy duty mechanics and careers in the transportation and trades sectors, or the Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP).

Students will also receive certification in:

  • ALI: Lifting It Right
  • First Aid

This course links directly to the Automotive Service Technician Journeyperson Certification. 

 

Carpentry

Semester 1

This hands-on course introduces students to the fundamental skills and knowledge required in the carpentry trade. Students will learn practical techniques including measuring, cutting, framing, and finishing, while gaining experience with common tools and materials used in residential and commercial construction. The course emphasizes safety, blueprint reading, and workplace professionalism. This apprenticeship-level program is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in carpentry or the skilled trades, and prepares learners for entry into the workforce of further technical training. 

Students will also receive credentialing in:

  • CSTS2020: Construction Safety Fundamentals
  • Fall Arrest
  • First Aid

This course links directly to the Carpenter Journeyperson Certification.

Cybersecurity & IT

Semester 1

This course offers students a comprehensive foundation in information technology and cybersecurity practices. Through hands-on learning, students will build and configure their own computers while exploring essential topics such as computer and network security, system administration, ethical hacking, and cyber defense strategies. The curriculum includes participation in blue team and red team competitions to develop real-world skills in defending and attacking systems.

Students will also prepare for industry-recognized certification exams, including CompTIA A+, CCST Cybersecurity, and ISC2 Cybersecurity certifications. This course equips learners with the knowledge and skills needed for careers or further education in the fast-growing and ever-evolving field of cybersecurity and IT.

Environment Science & Technology

EVS1210: Applied Ecology

This course provides an introduction to ecological principles at the species, population, community and ecosystem levels. Specific application of ecology to sustainability and the management of forest and grassland ecosystems are studied.

Foundations in Industry Workplace Safety

This hands-on course introduces students to essential safety practices and protocols used across a wide range of industries, including construction, manufacturing, and trades. Students will gain practical knowledge in hazard recognition, personal protective equipment (PPE), emergency procedures, and safe work practices in alignment with Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety standards. The course also includes certification opportunities such as WHMIS and First Aid.

Designed for students pursuing careers in the skilled trades or industrial sectors, this course builds a strong foundation in workplace safety and professionalism. It is a valuable starting point for those interested in apprenticeship training or entering safety-sensitive occupations.

This course supports pathways toward certifications recognized in Alberta’s skilled trades and industry.

Power Engineering 4th Class Part A

Semester 1&2

Students will explore the fundamentals of boiler systems, pressure vessels, safety protocols, and energy systems used in hospitals, schools, industrial plants, and commercial facilities. Through online instruction, learners will gain insight into the daily responsibilities of a Power Engineer and the importance of maintaining safe, efficient operations.

The course prepares students for further technical training and supports pathways toward 4th Class Power Engineering certification. Ideal for students interested in energy systems, mechanical processes, or industrial operations, this program opens doors to a wide range of careers in Alberta’s energy and utilities sectors.

*A strong foundation in math and science is recommended to support success in the technical aspects of the program. Students should be on track to achieve a minimum of 65% in:

  • Mathematics 20-1 or 20-2

  • Science 20 or Chemistry 20 or Physics 20

This course links directly to the 4th Class Power Engineer Certification from Northern Lakes College.

Welding

Semester 2

This hands-on course provides students with foundational skills and knowledge in the welding trade, including various welding techniques such as SMAW (stick), GMAW (MIG), FCAW, and GTAW (TIG). Students will learn to safely operate welding equipment, interpret blueprints, and understand welding symbols and metallurgy basics. Emphasis is placed on workplace safety, precision, and quality workmanship. This course is ideal for students interested in pursuing a career in the welding or skilled trades such as, steamfitter-pipefitter, ironworker, or boilermaker.

This course links directly to the Welder Journeyperson Certification via the first year welding apprenticeship.

 

Work Experience - The Educational Partnership Foundation

In partnership with The Educational Partnership Foundation (TEPF), this immersive course gives students hands-on exposure to multiple skilled trades, including welding, carpentry, electrical, and pipefitting. Led by certified trades professionals, students will work in industry-standard shop settings while learning essential skills such as tool use, blueprint reading, safety protocols, and workplace communication.

This program is ideal for students exploring careers in the trades and looking to gain practical experience before entering an apprenticeship or post-secondary training. Students may also earn safety certifications such as CSTS and WHMIS as part of the program.

This is an unpaid opportunity where will earn work experience credits for participation in this course. Students must provide their own transportation to and from the training centres. This course supports entry into Alberta’s Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) and various trade pathways.
