2025-26 Programming Details

Admission Requirements

Students must meet the criteria set out by the post-secondary institution offering the course or program, which will typically include a minimum of 65% or higher in:

  • ELA 20-1 or ELA 20-2
  • Science 10
  • Math 10C or Math 30-3
  • HCS3000
  • 20-level related CTS credit (or equivalent work experience)

Students must be prepared to commit to post-secondary level expectations, including independent learning, meeting deadlines, and attending all scheduled classes on-time with the learning materials ready.

Behavioural & Social Sciences

These dual credit programs introduce students to key concepts in the behavioral sciences, helping them explore how people think, feel, and interact. Students will earn both high school and post-secondary credits through courses such as:

PSYC1040-Introduction to Psychology:

Study human behavior, brain function, learning, memory, and mental health. This course is the basic foundation course in psychology. It provides an introduction to the scientific study of behaviour and the mind. This course examines the evolution of psychology, research methods, descriptive statistics, the brain and behaviour, human lifespan development, sensation and perception, states of consciousness, conditioning and learning, and memory.

 

SOCI1000: Introduction to the Study of Society:

Examine social structures, cultural norms, inequality, and how society influences individuals. Sociology is the systematic study of human society and social behaviour. The goal of this course is to stimulate your sociological curiosity by encouraging you to ask questions about why people behave the way they do in social groups and how society operates.

These courses lay the foundation for careers in psychology, social work, education, law enforcement, health care, and more. This program is ideal for students curious about human behavior and interested in pursuing post-secondary studies in social sciences.

Buisness Management Courses

ACT1011: Accounting Principles 1

Semester 1

Students will gain an introduction to financial accounting focusing on the accounting cycle and the preparation of financial statements. Topics include accounting for merchandising activities, internal control, accounting for cash, temporary investments, accounts receivable, inventories, cost of goods sold, and current liabilities.

ACT1012: Accounting Principles 2

This course is a continuation of ACT 1011 to allow for additional study of accounting at an introductory level. Topics include capital assets, long-term liabilities, partnership accounting, accounting for corporations, financial analysis techniques, as well as the cash flow statement using various technologies. * Students must have successfully completed ACT1011.*

Cook

Semester 2

This hands-on course introduces students to the foundational skills of the culinary industry through Alberta’s Cook Apprenticeship program. Students will gain practical experience in food preparation, knife skills, cooking techniques, and kitchen safety. Emphasis is placed on sanitation, time management, and working as part of a professional kitchen team. Students will have the opportunity to prepare a variety of dishes while learning about nutrition, menu planning, and culinary terminology.

Designed for students interested in becoming professional cooks or pursuing careers in the hospitality industry, this course aligns with the first period of the Cook Apprenticeship and may lead to credit toward post-secondary certification and apprenticeship hours.

This course links directly to the Cook Journeyperson Certification.

 

Early Childhood Education (Human Development)

ECDE100: Human Development 1

Offered in partnership with Portage College, this dual credit course provides students with an in-depth understanding of human growth and development from infancy through adulthood. Students will explore key developmental stages, including physical, cognitive, emotional, and social changes, with a focus on early childhood. The course also examines the role of caregivers and educators in supporting healthy development.

Ideal for students interested in careers in early childhood education, teaching, social work, or health care, this course combines theory with practical insights and prepares students for further post-secondary study. Upon successful completion, students earn their Level One Early Childhood Educator Certification. 

This course supports pathways toward certification in Early Learning and Child Care and related human services fields.

Hairstylist

Semester 1

This hands-on course introduces students to the fundamentals of the hairstyling trade through Alberta’s Hairstyling Apprenticeship program. Students will develop practical skills in hair cutting, styling, colouring, and chemical texturizing while gaining experience with salon tools, client care, and hygiene practices. Emphasis is placed on safety, professional conduct, and industry standards.

Designed for students interested in pursuing a career in the beauty industry, this program provides real-world training in a salon environment. Students may earn hours toward their first-period Hairstyling Apprenticeship and build a strong foundation for further technical training or direct entry into the workforce.

This course links directly to the Hairstylist Journeyperson Certification.

Health Care Aide

These dual credit courses introduce students to the essential knowledge and practical skills required to begin a career in health care. Through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on learning, students will explore topics such as client care, communication, chronic illness, and the roles and responsibilities of a Health Care Aide. Emphasis is placed on compassion, professionalism, and safety in supporting patients across various health care settings.

Students will complete post-secondary-level coursework and may earn both high school and college credits. This program is ideal for those interested in nursing, senior care, or other allied health professions, and prepares learners for further study or entry-level roles in Alberta’s health care system.

This course links directly to the provincially recognized Health Care Aide Certification.

Hospitality and Tourism

HAT1255: Global and Sustainable Tourism

Students will gain an understanding of the psychology of travel, tourism sectors, the role of key industry players, and contemporary issus in ecotourism, sustainability and buiness operations of various facilities, with a focus on the analysis of the service and operations from a guest perspective.

Human Anatomy

Offered in partnership with NAIT, this dual credit course provides students with a foundational understanding of human anatomy and its application in health, wellness, and sport. Students will study the structure and function of major body systems, including muscular, skeletal, cardiovascular, and nervous systems. Through engaging lectures and lab-based learning, students will explore how the human body moves, adapts, and responds to physical activity and injury.

Ideal for students interested in careers in kinesiology, sports medicine, nursing, or other health sciences, this course provides post-secondary level content while earning both high school and NAIT credits. It is an excellent introduction to anatomy for students pursuing further education in health-related fields.

Sports Management

SPM1260: Introduction to Sports Management

SPM1020: Training for Performance

Students will learn about the various aspects of training for performance. They will analyze the basic science behind activity, energy systems, and macrocycles in sport training. Consideration will aslo be given to diverse populations, training facilities, equipment, schedules, budges, as well as induvidual and team training.

Veterinary Technology

AHT1040: Veterinary Practice: The Team Connection

Students will become familiar with the aspects of the service cycle within a veterinary clinic. Students will explore veterinary software and their specific application to operating a veterinary practice. They will apply communication skills to create positive experiences for veterinary clients.

ANH1050: Intro to the Veterinary Profession

Semester 1 or 2

Students will become familiar with selected animal health organizations and will adhere to the regulations of veterinary medicine in Alberta. Students are introduced to strategies and techniques for managing self and interacting with others. Students will examine animal welfare and ethical issues. This course provides students with foundational veterinary medical terminology they will use throughout their career.

This course transfers to the Veterinary Techincal Assistant Certificate at Olds College.
