What is the difference between asynchronous, synchronous, and in-person course delivery?

  • Asynchronous courses are completed on your own schedule. You can access course materials, watch recorded lectures, and complete assignments at any time, allowing for maximum flexibility.

  • Synchronous courses require you to be online at specific times to participate in live, real-time classes with your instructor and peers through video conferencing or other platforms.

  • In-person courses take place at a physical location, such as a school or training site, where students attend scheduled classes face-to-face with an instructor.

Each delivery method offers a different learning experience, so it's important to choose the format that best suits your learning style and availability.

Will my credits transfer to post-secondary?

Use Transfer Alberta to find out where your course could transfer after high school.

With Transfer Alberta, you can:
✔️ Look up your course by name or code
✔️ See which colleges or universities might accept it
✔️ Explore program options and requirements

It’s a great tool to help plan your next steps — especially if you're thinking about applying to a related program.

How do I obtain my post-secondary transcript?

If you want your dual credit course to count toward your post-secondary program, you’ll need to request an official transcript from the post-secondary school that offered the course (like NAIT, NorQuest, SAIT, etc.).

Steps:

  1. Find out which school delivered your course
  2. Go to that school’s website
  3. Request an official transcript to be sent to your future college or university

Your high school transcript shows that you took the course, but only the post-secondary transcript counts for credit at most institutions.

How can my CTF courses best prepare me for collegiate pathways?

CTF (Career and Technology Foundations) courses are a great way to explore your interests, build hands-on skills, and prepare for high school programs that lead into collegiate pathways.

Whether you're interested in areas like health, trades, business, or tech, CTF courses can give you early exposure to real-world tools, thinking, and practices that are built on in CTS and dual credit courses later on.

To get the most out of CTF:
✔️ Choose courses that match your interests or career goals
✔️ Ask how your CTF work connects to high school CTS or post-secondary options
✔️ Take every opportunity to learn new skills and work on real projects
